When Buzz begins to malfunction, Bonnie's mom ships him back to the factory in Hong Kong where all Buzz Lightyear toys are manufactured. However, when Woody and the gang learn that there has been a worldwide recall on all Buzz Lightyear toys and that Buzz will be replaced, they set out on a journey to Hong Kong to rescue him. Upon their arrival, however, they encounter an old enemy: Stinky Pete.

Production[]
Toy Story 5 began production shortly after the release of Toy Story 4. The film contains many elements of a previous story that was originally going to be used for Toy Story 3 when it was being produced under the now-defunct Disney studio Circle 7 Animation in 2005. It was decided early in development of Toy Story 5 that this story's premise would be revisited.
The film was officially announced at the 2024 D23 Expo, accompanied by a short teaser trailer. It was also confirmed that Hanks, Allen, and Grammer had already signed on to reprise their roles as Woody, Buzz, and Stinky Pete. No release window was given at the time, but a subsequent full-length trailer released to Disney and Pixar's social media pages in December confirmed the June 19, 2026 date.
Marketing[]
Mattel and Lego will produce toys to promote Toy Story 5. A video game titled Toy Story 5: The Video Game will be released for Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows, and PlayStation 4 on the same day as the film's release. Like the games based on the previous two films, it is a platform action-adventure game and is being developed by Avalanche Software.
