The Baldi's Basics Movie is a 2024 American computer generated film made by DreamWorks Animation, it was released in theaters and onto steaming services on January 5th 2024 and then released onto DVD on July 13th 2024.

The film focuses on ten high school students named Samara, Emma, Ezekiel, Dave, Ryan, Scarlet, Sarah, Harold and Emily, their goal is to find the seven notebooks, run away from Baldi, escape the school and get Baldi fired.

Plot

The film starts at Samara's house, she wakes up, has her breakfast, gets ready and starts walking to school, she meets up with her best friend Emma and then continues walking to school with her, she then meets up with Scarlet, who is tried, then she meets up with Emily and continues walking.

They make it to Baldi's School House and head to class, the camera points up into the sky with the title "The Baldi's Basics Movie", the camera points back down to the school, we then see a group of boys named Dave, Ezekiel and Ryan, they see a boy named Harold being beaten up by the school bully, Ezekiel's older sister Ash picks the bully up and locks him in a locker and then comforts Harold.

The boys then head to math class with the girls and sit down, a teacher named Baldi then comes in the room and then starts teaching the class math, the bully then throughs a paper ball at Baldi calling him "Baldy", Baldi responds with "That's Mr. Baldi to you trouble maker", the class then calls him "Baldy", Baldi then has a breakdown and leaves.

The class move on to their next lesson, which is art with Mrs. Bennett, Mrs. Bennett teaches the class to make sculptures out of clay, the class procced to make their own clay sculptures.

The bell rings, it's lunch time, everyone rushes outside and starts playing, Samara notices that Baldi has gone home, the others just laugh about it and continue playing until the bell rings again, it's the last lesson for the day, they had cooking with Mr. Sean, Mr. Sean teaches the class how to make cake, the class then proceeds to make cake, some of them vanilla, some of them chocolate and some of them strawberry.

It's home time, everyone rushes out the door and starts running home, Samara walks with Emma and then goes home, she sees Baldi entering his house, Baldi then sits on his couch with a depressed look, his wife then asks what happened, Baldi then tells her about his students making fun of his baldness, he then goes into his bathroom, looks in the mirror saying "I have suffered from my baldness long enough... Just wait until they see me tomorrow", Baldi then plans a field trip to show his students that he is a "Nice guy".

Meanwhile at Samara's house, Emma comes over for dinner, Samara's mom and dad head out to a meeting with their boss Mr. Grammar, Samara and Emma discuss about Baldi and how he might give everyone punishments for making fun of him, Samara looks out though her window to see Baldi planning something, Samara gets nervous that Baldi was planning his student's punishments, Emma then leaves and Samara goes to bed.

It is morning, Samara wakes up and gets ready for school, she meets up with Emma again and then goes to school, they head inside of Baldi's schoolhouse and sit down in their classrooms, Baldi walks into the room with a hat and backpack on and tells the students that he has planned a field trip and everyone is allowed to come, everyone gets on the bus and the field trip begins.

The bus pulls up at a park and set up tents, Samara asks Baldi why everyone is setting up tents, Baldi tells Samara that he sent everyone's parents an email that the field trip will last for a day, Samara is a bit worried about that, but she acts like she is alright with it and meets with with the girls, the girls discuss about how gross the place is, but then Harold and Maurice get into a fight, Baldi gets angry at both of them and tells everyone to get back on the bus and head back to school.

After 3 hours of boring lessons, it was home time once again, Samara goes home and sits down of her couch, exhausted from doing a lot of work, Samara's parents get back from work and head inside, they Samara on the couch looking very tired, they ask her what was wrong, Samara tells them that the field trip was cancelled after a fight happened while they were setting up for the night, she also tells them that Harold the "Nerdy kid" won the fight, Samara then goes bed and sleeps.

It is morning once again, Samara heads off to school, she meets up with Emma again and continues walking to school, when they arrived, it was quiet... too quiet, there was no one there, when they were looking for other students, they found the boys (Dave, Ezekiel, Harold and Ryan), they were very scared, when the girls (Samara, Emma, Scarlet and Sarah) asked why they were scared, they claimed that Baldi attacked the bully with his ruler.

Baldi then tells the ten students to come into his classroom, they go in and sit down, Baldi tells the students that he had hid seven notebooks and then asks them a bunch of math questions, they get the questions right, but Harold gets the last question wrong, Baldi then gets his ruler out and starts chasing the students.

They then start trying to find all of the seven notebooks, they get lost in the hallways, Baldi gets angrier very question they get wrong, Harold and Scarlet are together, they find the first notebook, Scarlet answers all of the questions correctly, Baldi then finds Scarlet and takes her into a room, Harold manages to get away and then tries to warn the others.

They all meet up in the cafeteria, Harold tells everyone that he had found the first notebook and what happened to Scarlet, Sarah and Dave claimed that they found the second notebook, Ezekiel looked and looked and then found the third notebook in the science room, he then encounters Baldi, they through potions at each other, Ezekiel then collects the notebook and runs away.

Harold then finds the fourth notebook and then grabs that as well, he then finds the others showing the two notebooks he collected, there are three notebooks left, everyone goes different ways to find the three notebooks, Baldi then catches Ash and locks her with Scarlet, everyone starts running from Baldi once again as they find the remaining notebooks.

Samara finds the fifth notebook, the questions are getting harder, Baldi got angrier and faster as the questions were answered incorrectly, Emma finds the sixth notebook, Baldi then gets even faster, he catches Dave and locks him with Ash and Scarlet.

Emily eventually finds the last notebook, but it's in the hall where gym class happens, a dodge ball game is happening, Emily then gets hit by many dodgeballs, she eventually gets the last notebook.

Baldi then tells everyone via large speaker "Congratulations, you found all seven notebooks, now all you need to do is... GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!", the room's lights turn red, every light in all of the hallways also turn red, everyone starts rushing to the exit, Baldi is faster than a cheetah, he then catches Ryan and locks him in the room with Scarlet, Ash and Dave.

Samara, Emma, Ezekiel, Sarah, Harold and Emily escape, but Baldi was still chasing them, the 6 remaining students make it to Samara's house, where Charlie (Samara's father) and Samantha (Samara's mother) were home, they broke down the door and hid in the house, when Samara's parents asked what happened, she said that her math teacher Baldi attacked her and her friends, her parents were furious, they confronted Baldi and yelled at him.

The next day, Baldi gets fired from his job, he moves out and never comes back, Scarlet, Ash, Dave and Ryan were set free, Ezekiel confesses his love to Samara, Samara then admins that she had the same feelings for him too, they hug and kiss as the credits role.

Production

On March 18th 2022, DreamWorks needed ideas for their next film, they wanted to base it off a video game for children, when the were looking for an inspiration, on of the animators was playing Baldi's Basics In Education And Learning, they then decided to make a movie about Baldi's Basics.

They got the creator of the game Micah McGonigal to help direct, produce and voice act in the movie, they then needed voice actors for the characters, so Micah made new characters and then got a few people to audition for the characters.

Once he had found his actors, it was time to animate the movie itself, he then asked director David Soren if he can have the film in the same style as the Captain Underpants movie, they both agreed and then began animating.

Then finally there was the soundtrack, David Soren asked Micah what the Baldi's Basics original soundtrack sound like, Micah then told him that Smash Mouth should make the soundtrack, he also mentioned that Skrillex should make the music as well, so they got those people into the studio and they made the soundtrack.

On December 10th 2023, they had finally finished production and released the first trailer, then on December 18th 2023, they released the second trailer and and then finally on December 25th 2023, they released the final trailer, then the film came out on January 5th 2024.

Trivia

• The animation style of the film is very similar to Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, another DreamWorks film.
• Originally Bill Skarsgård was going to voice Ezekiel, but when they found Josh Gad, he didn't get the role.
• A lot of the Total Drama cast was used in the film.
• The film was originally going to be a musical, but was changed because of timing issues.
• Daft Punk make a cameo in the film as the two music teachers Mr. Love and Mr. Steam.
• The game version of Baldi's schoolhouse is an elementary school, but the film version is a high school, this was done to suit the character's voices with their chosen voice actors.
• The film discusses two serious topics, the scene where Harold gets bullied by Maurice issues the topic of bullying, while the scene where Baldi chases the kids issues the topic of child abuse, this was done to teach kids about the dangers of these topics.
