Inside Out 3 is a 2029 American computer-animated coming-of-age fantasy comedy-drama film produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures. It is the third installment in the Inside Out franchise and the sequel to Inside Out 2 (2024). The film was directed by Kelsey Mann, produced by Dana Murray, and written by Meg LaFauve from a story the two co-wrote with Pete Docter, Dave Holstein, and Keith Bunin. Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Kensington Tallman, Diane Lane, Kyle MacLachlan, Maya Hawke, Ayo Edibiri, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Paul Walter Hauser, and Lilimar all reprise their roles from the first two films. The returning cast are all joined by newcomers Olivia Holt, Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, Nico Greetham, Tim Blake Nelson, Danny McBride, Adam Scott, and Stephen Tobolowsky. Set four years after the events of the previous film, the story revolves around Riley, who is about to graduate high school, falling in love with a boy from her class, shortly before she eventually starts doing things that are highly suspicious. Joy and the other emotions, both old and new, must then stop this new behavior before Riley does something that could affect her for the rest of her life.

Following the success of Inside Out 2 in June 2024, Mann expressed interest in making a third movie. After a couple of years of stalling, the film was finally announced to be in development in October 2026, with Mann slated to return as director from the second film. Similar to the first two films, concepts and ideas that went unused for both prior stories ended up being a part of Inside Out 3's plot, such as the idea of Love as an emotion. Additionally, like the previous films, various psychologists were consulted to ensure the story had an authentic take on the idea of transitioning from teenager to adulthood, and the emotions that come along with it.

Inside Out 3 premiered in Los Angeles on June 12, 2029, and was theatrically released in the United States on June 22. The film received highly positive reviews from critics and grossed $1.123 billion worldwide, becoming the third highest-grossing film of 2024 and the seventh highest-grossing animated film of all-time. At the 102nd Academy Awards, the film received several nominations, winning Best Animated Feature, and was similarly successful at the Annie, Critics' Choice, and Golden Globe Awards. Several film critics named Inside Out 3 as the best animated movie of 2029.

Premise

Four years after Riley became a teenager, the five core emotions in her mind-Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, and Fear-have begun working together with the four new emotions-Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui, with all nine of them working together to ensure Riley has a good future, especially since she is now officially on the Firehawks high school hockey team with her new friend Val Ortiz, in addition to remaining friends with her former middle school classmates Grace and Bree. Also, Riley is almost 18 and about to graduate high school top of her class, with the intent of pursuing a hockey scholarship in college. But just as she is approaching the end of her senior year, she begins to harbor feelings for one of her classmates, Brad Peterson, and the two pursue a relationship together, which leads to six new emotions-Love, Pain, Regret, Strength, Pride, and Surprises-emerging inside her mind. Unfortunately, as Riley and Brad's relationship goes further, the former begins doing some things that are questionable and could get her into trouble, even with the law, which would mean that she cannot pursue her future goals in becoming a professional hockey player and joining an Olympic medal-winning hockey team. Joy and the other emotions, including the new ones, must stop Riley from doing these terrible things and having this bad behavior before it's too late and she begins doing something that could affect her for the rest of her life, as well as her relationships with other people she knows, including her friends Val, Bree, and Grace, and her parents Jill and Bill.
