Holes is upcoming American computer-animated comedy-adventure film. The film is directed by Henry Selick and produced by Sue Bea Montgomery, based on his novel of the same name, originally published in August 1998. It stars the voice talents of Sam Rockwell, Jason Pennycooke, Willie Nelson, Carolina Herrera, Kate McKinnon, Grant George, Aislinn Derbez, Nicholas Galitzine, Richard Ayoade, Gary Anthony, J.K. Simmons, Bill Pullman and Trey Parker.

The film was produced by BRON Studios and Laika Studios.

On TBA, Lionsgate announced that they would reboot the Holes film series with an animated film, then being written by "?". ON, TBA, Henry Selick, who had previously worked on several Holes projects, was hired to direct the animated film, now with a script by Temple Grandin. Sue Bea Montgomery produced the film.

Animation services were provided by Cinesite Animation Studios, who also produced the animation for the 2000s stop-motion-animated Coraline theatrical film that Henry Selick directed.

On TBA, Heitor Pereira signed on to compose the film's score. On TBA, it was announced "Dust", an original song performed by Eminem, which appears in the end credits of the film.

Released[]

Holes was originally scheduled to be released on March 31, 2023. But that scheduled changes to be released on May 29, 2026 due to the RAGED-22 pandemic. The film was later removed from the release schedule in March, though the film was still set to be released later in 2023 at the time of the film's removal.

Home media[]

Holes was released on digital and VOD on July 28. The film was released on Blu-ray and DVD on August 11, by Lionsgate Home Entertainment.

Based on ? professional critic reviews, the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reports that 46% of those reviews were positive, with an average rating of 7.3/10. On the website, the critics' consensus reads, "TBD." Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 29 out of 100, based on 25 critics, indicating "generally unfavorable" reviews. CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "C-" on an A+ to F scale, while PostTrak reported filmgoers gave it a (insert numbers)% overall positive score and a (insert numbers)% "(?)".

In an interview with Fandango in TBA. Temple Grandin hinted at the idea of a sequel stating he had ideas for one and that there are "some folks who are excited about that idea".
