Heroes is an American epic high fantasy action superhero film which is a collaboration between two directors: Ridley Scott and Zack Snyder. It was produced by Scott Free Productions and The Stone Quarry Inc. while being distributed by Paramount Pictures. The film features various historical heroes as they are transported to a mysterious world to fight against the oppressive heroes that exist there.

Plot[]

In 1869, the samurai Toshizo Hijikata fought for the Ezo Republic against the New Government. In his attempt to save the besieged Benten Fortress, Hijikata was shot in the stomach and dying. Unbeknownst to the samurai, he was transported to a mysterious world. In that world, two robber goblins were on the run when they were intercepted by Siegfried and Naama, two heroes of that world. The two goblins were successfully killed, although casualties resulted from Siegfried and Naama's brutality.

Hijikata woke up and found himself still alive. He met Nobunaga Oda and Tomoe Gozen, two people who according to Hijikata had died hundreds of years ago. Elsewhere, a village is visited by Reinhard, son of Gallus, one of the Six Dragons. Reinhard acts arbitrarily towards the villagers until he encounters resistance from Kiara, one of the villagers. Kiara runs away but is chased by Reinhard's subordinates. Kiara flees to the three samurai, where she is saved by them by killing Reinhard's subordinates. The three samurai decide to help Kiara. Thanks to Nobunaga's strategy, Hijikata's tenacity, and Reinhard's high arrogance, the corrupt hero is killed.

Gallus is enraged to learn that his son was killed, eliminating any chance for him to inherit his position in the Six Dragons, and sets out to kill the three samurai. This was opposed by Aira, the director of White Castle, the world's hero organization, because she was afraid that the image of White Castle and its heroes would be bad, and decided to hold a contest to capture the three samurai. In a village, a magician named Zhang Jiao was told by his disciple Maya about the three samurai who had killed Reinhard, making him decide to meet the three samurai. He takes three others - Shaka, Bonnie Parker, and Clyde Barrow - with him, only to have to confront the heroes when the villagers reveal their whereabouts. Everyone manages to escape when the heroes are distracted by a fighter plane piloted by Heinrich Ehrler, a German pilot during World War 2, who has just come into the world.

Maya is discovered by the three samurai, who then reveal that people from the real world are called Outsiders, and that the Outsiders were sent to that world to defeat the corrupt White Castle and its heroes. Nobunaga argues that White Castle is not that easy to defeat and the only way to defeat it is to take over all the countries in the world and use their resources against White Castle. They first convince the villagers to rebel, which they agree to, despite objections to collaborating with the Outsiders by Sei, Kiara's older brother, who has a grudge against them considering that one of the Outsiders once betrayed them and made them suffer. Against Aira's wishes, Gallus sent his subordinates to destroy the village. There, they fought against the villagers under Hijikata's leadership. Although initially successful in dominating them, the villagers begin to have difficulties when the heroes begin to use their superpowers. Hijikata was captured, while Nobunaga, Tomoe, Maya, and the villagers managed to escape.

Hijikata is confronted by Aira and Gallus at the White Castle. Gallus insisted on killing Hijikata, but was opposed by Aira who argued that Hijikata could lure the rebels out. Hijikata is placed in prison, along with the other prisoners. Hijikata plans an escape, who is supported by the other prisoners. On the other hand, Nobunaga and the others plan to save Hijikata. At that time, Maya's master, Zhang Jiao, arrived with Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow. Zhang Jiao explained that Shaka was separated while they were on the run. Shaka himself walked aimlessly until he joined Ehrler who was lost after his plane was damaged.

Hijikata was placed in a gladiator arena watched by everyone. Hijikata fights various heroes and manages to kill them, frustrating Gallus who ultimately decides to fight Hijikata himself despite Aira forbade him. Hijikata was beaten many times and when Gallus was about to kill him, he was told that Gallus' castle had been burned. Gallus decided to leave Hijikata alone and focus more on his castle. At the burning castle, Nobunaga and Tomoe are there, revealing themselves to be the castle's arsonists. On the other hand, Zhang Jiao and the villagers led the battle in the gladiator arena against the heroes. Zhang Jiao fights Siegfried, Aira escapes, while Hijikata takes advantage of the situation to free the prisoners and help Zhang Jiao and the villagers. After getting Hijikata, Zhang Jiao decided to retreat with him and the prisoners, leaving Siegfried behind. Hijikata reunites with Nobunaga and Tomoe, who have planned an attack on Galahar, one of the countries. Zhang Jiao, Bonnie, and Clyde themselves decided to split up with the group to look for Shaka.

White Castle is really furious with what happened to them, especially Gallus who have lost everything. Meanwhile, the Outsiders led an attack on Galahar and succeeded in taking control of various areas. The Galahar leader entered into negotiations with the Outisders, stating that his country had suffered enough from White Castle's pressure and he was willing to ally with them. Galahar is suddenly attacked by Gallus and his subordinates without White Castle's consent. Hijikata decides to fight Gallus while Nobunaga, Tomoe, and the others try to defend the palace. With Nobunaga's strategy, Gallus' subordinates were defeated. Hijikata fought with Gallus and managed to cut off both his arms and legs, leaving Gallus helpless. Unexpectedly, Gallus begs to be left alive and is willing to reveal the corruption of the heroes. Unbeknownst to Gallus, this was heard by everyone. Hijikata is unconvinced and prepares to kill Gallus, only for Gallus to be killed by Siegfried who flees immediately after.

In the end, one of the countries is captured, while White Castle faced a lot of pressure with Gallus' previous revelations. Hijikata, Nobunaga, and Tomoe decide to continue leading their group, nicknamed the Resistance, to take down White Castle and its heroes.

In the post-credit scene, Aira, who is dizzy, is approached by a man. Aira asks the man for help, claiming that he might know about the Outsiders because he is from the future. The man agrees as long as there is a fee, which Aira agrees to by revealing the person to be "the most important person in White Castle". However, the man did not like being called that, and preferred to be called Grigori Rasputin.
