The Dog Mannequin is an American animated drama adventure film is produced by Nickelodeon Movies and Walden Media and distributed by Paramount Pictures. It is directed by Jeff Rowe from a screenplay by Christina Hodson and Maya Forbes. Zac Efron voices the titular character Endrae, a living dog mannequin who has to keep the store from falling into the wrong hands. Tom Hanks, Sam Rockwell, Dolly Parton, John Bradley, John Ortiz, Kate Hudson, Dennis Quaid, Bette Midler, Katherine Waterston, Kit Harington, Jimmy O. A dog mannequin was tired of being cooped up in a clothing store, so he snuck out to see the world and makes friends with two orphan children and a stray dog. Soon enough, they've discovered a plot to take over the clothing store. So, the dog mannequin, along with his new friends, have to keep the store from falling into the wrong hands.
Plot[]
In the city of Barvia Hills, in Arizona, there is a clothing store for people and dogs called Tor's Clothing Place. The owner, Tor J. Chandler, takes very good care of the store, including the employees and Franken, Tor's old dog. But the store has a secret that nobody knew about. All the dog mannequins in Tor's Clothing Place are alive. Whenever the store closes the dog mannequins can chat with each other, but one dog mannequin named Endrae is tired of being inside the store and wishes to see the world. His mother, Diana, just wanted Endrae to stay inside and Norman, his brother, assist it also.
One day, during the weekend, Tor's Clothing Place was closed and all the dog mannequins were asleep. But Endrae stayed awake. He looked out the window and sees all the people outside. Then Endrae had an idea: He'll sneak out of the store and explore the world. So, Endrae had managed to fall off the stand and pulled the metal stand off of him. He'd practiced walking on two legs and quietly walked over to the back door, which was left unlocked. Endrae went through the door and closed it to cover his tracks.
Endrae hid behind a trashcan and was in awe by all the wonderful sights of the city. Just then he saw the garbage man coming and quickly ran into an alleyway to avoid being seen. But a Dalmatian jumped out and growled at Endrae for he had thought he was an intruder. When the Dalmatian tackled Endrae to the ground his arm popped off and Endrae put his arm back on. The Dalmatian was surprised to find out that Endrae is an actual dog mannequin and not a person in a dog suite.
After some explanation, Endrae introduced himself and the Dalmatian said his name is Gordon. Gordon told Endrae that he needs to rest for awhile. Then Gordon led Endrae to his hideout, where he'd shared his food with him and they became best friends. Endrae was quickly liking the outside world, which made him decided to explore with Gordon tomorrow.
Meanwhile, back at Tor's Clothing Place, Norman woke up to find out that Endrae is gone and he told his mother and the other dog mannequins about it. They looked all over the store for Endrae, but couldn't find him anywhere. That's when Diana found some prints heading to the back door and realized that Endrae had went outside. So, Norman, walking like a regular dog, went out into the city to find Endrae while the other dog mannequins stayed inside the store.
When it got dark, Endrae had heard some nice stories from Gordon and wondered why he's on the streets. Gordon was reluctant to answer because he doesn't want to talk about it. After lying down Endrae lay down his head on Gordon's belly and the two went to sleep, without noticing Norman walking past the alleyway.
The next day, Endrae and Gordon went wandering through Barvia Hills, seeing all the marvelous sights of the city. As they walked around Barvia Hills, many people were surprised to see Endrae, thinking that he's a young man in a dog suite. They even went to the park, where the two had saved two orphan children from a bunch of stray dogs, who were threating them. The two orphans, Arnold and Beth, thanked Endrae and Gordon and let them spend some time with them in their hideout, which was an old abandoned food shop.
Meanwhile, Norman was still looking for Endrae when he'd noticed Tor talking to Kate Jameson, a female worker from the bank. Norman overheard their conversation and was completely shocked. He just found out that Tor's Clothing Place was going to be handed over to the bank. Norman then followed Endrae's scent and found him with Gordon, Beth, and Arnold in the food shop.
Inside the food shop, Endrae was reading a book while Beth and Arnold played with Gordon. That's when Norman jumped in through an open window and growled at Gordon, Arnold, and Beth. Endrae stood infront of Norman and said that Gordon, Arnold, and Beth are friends. Confused, Norman asked his brother what is going on and Endrae then told Norman everything that happened when he'd left Tor's Clothing Place.
After some introducing, Norman became interested how Endrae was walking on two legs. So, Endrae taught Norman to walk on two legs, which he'd did very well. When the two dog mannequins, Gordon, Beth, and Arnold sat down to eat Norman then told Endrae what he had heard from Tor and Kate. Endrae was stunned and wondered why would the bank need Tor's Clothing Place.
When Arnold turned the radio on, the news announcer told the top news story, which was Tor's Clothing Place closing in a few days. Endrae and Norman were devastated, thinking that they'll lose their home. But Gordon said that they won't let it happen because they're going to find a way to prevent the store from closing. Endrae, Norman, Beth, and Arnold agreed to Gordon's suggestion.
At the bank, Norman, Beth, and Arnold kept watch while Endrae and Gordon snuck in trying to find Tor's contract. When they went into the office of the bank owner Endrae heard someone coming and he and Gordon hid behind a potted plant. The owner of the bank, Hank Templeton, and his dogs, Walt, Mark, and Jimmy, came into the office with Kate, discussing their plans for Tor's Clothing Place.
Hank told Kate that he'll turn the store into a hotel, where rich people could stay and pets are not allowed. But Kate was not sure about this because everyone loves Tor's Clothing Place. Hank angrily said that he'll make sure everyone won't remember the store and will like the hotel, which will be called Barvia Hills Grand Hotel. Kate then reluctantly agreed to do so as her boss laughs and takes out an empty contract. Endrae became very angry from what he'd heard and told Gordon that he needs the store to stay forever. The Dalmatian then agreed on Endrae's option.
The two jumped out, surprising Hank and Kate. Endrae confidently introduced himself and demanded to let Tor's Clothing Place stay open. So, Hank ordered Kate to take Gordon with her while he talked to Endrae. After Kate and Gordon had left the room Hank and Endrae had a small talk, which ended with Endrae telling Hank that he'll make sure that the store stays open. But Hank had Mark tackled Endrae to the ground, tied him up, and left him in his supply closet. Then Hank ordered Jimmy to guard the door as he, Walt, and Mark went to teardown Tor's Clothing Place.
Meanwhile, Norman, Beth, and Arnold had been captured by Hank's mute security guards. They've put them in Hank's car to watch Tor's Clothing Place being torn down to the ground. Only Kate and Gordon had stayed at the bank as they sadly watched Hank, Walt, and Mark leave with his demolition workers and Endrae's brother and friends.
In the supply closet, Endrae tried to get himself free, but the ropes were hard to come off of his paws. Just then the door began to open slowly and Endrae thought it was Hank. But it was actually Jimmy at the door and he'd freed Endrae from the ropes he's tied to. Endrae was confused by Jimmy's actions and asked him why did he untied the ropes. Jimmy said that he's tired of Hank telling him what to do and he wanted to be with a kind man. So, Endrae offered the Doberman to be Tor's dog once they'd saved Tor's Clothing Place and Jimmy said that he'll be glad to help. They ran out of the bank and met up with Gordon and Kate, who'll also be helping to save the store.
The four rode in Kate's car to Tor's Clothing Place, where they see Hank and the demolition workers were preparing to demolish the store. Kate and Endrae quietly freed Norman, Arnold, and Beth and made their way to the back of the store, where Jimmy showed Tor and Franken the reason why Endrae and Norman were missing. Tor was shocked when he'd noticed that Endrae and Norman, the two dog mannequins, are alive and found out that the other dog mannequins are also alive. Endrae then told Tor everything that happened and is sorry for leaving the store.
Tor put his hand on Endrae's shoulder and said that he forgives him and now they need a plan to stop Hank. So, Arnold had came up with a plan and quietly told the others what they had to do. The whole group agrees, got the other dog mannequins to join them, and quickly set up their plan.
Right when Hank was about to get his demolition workers start destroying the building, a cloud of white smoke suddenly surrounds them and Endrae and Norman had emerged from the smoke. Hank thought that he and his workers were going to take them on, but he was wrong. The smoke clears to reveal that Diana and the other dog mannequins, who are all on two legs, are standing by Endrae and Norman's side and are blocking the path of the bulldozers. Hank then became very angry and ordered Endrae to step aside. But Endrae said that he and the other dog mannequins will stand for their home will stay, if they have to fight for it.
Enraged, Hank ordered his men to fight the dog mannequins and demolish the store. The demolition workers grabbed their tools and began fighting the dog mannequins. But Hank realized that the dog mannequins are winning and he had sent Walt and Mark to attack Endrae. When Jimmy saw this he jumped infront of the two Dobermans, which made them shocked and angry. Mark and Walt angrily asked Jimmy to get out of the way, but Jimmy refused and fought Walt and Mark who'd been defeated afterwards.
Then, Endrae and Hank fought each other, which led to them fighting on the rooftop of Hank's van. When Hank had knocked Endrae's weapon out of his paws Hank tried to convince Endrae to surrender. But Endrae won't surrender and explained why Tor's Clothing Place is so special as a bunch of people had gathered to see the whole fight. Endrae then asked Hank just to give up his plans and go down the right path.
Hank said that he'll never give up and he'd swung at Endrae. But he missed, fell off the van, and landed on the road, breaking his left arm. Endrae jumped down and grabbed the sledgehammer before Hank could. With that, the dog mannequins had won the battle and they all cheered for their home has been saved. Endrae hugged his brother and mother with a big smile on his face. He even hugged his three friends.
After the police had taken away Hank and his men, Walt and Mark were taken to the pound and Officers Ernie and Dan, along with Chief Barry Jones, had thanked Tor, Franken, and Kate for stopping Hank. Then a police dog named Smith had congratulated Endrae, Norman, Gordon, Beth, and Arnold for their brave actions. Diana told Endrae that she and Tor were proud of him saving the store. Jimmy was also happy when a female dog named Onia had asked him on a date later. Tor then told Kate about his crush on her and they'd shared a kiss. Endrae and Norman thought that it's great moment for Tor.
Two months later, Endrae, Norman, and Diana were given their own apartment while the other dog mannequins had their own living quarters at the store. Kate had started working at Tor's Clothing Place and she had married Tor. They even adopted Beth and Arnold and Franken had adopted Gordon and Jimmy. At the store Diana helped Kate sort out the clothes while Endrae and Norman helped Tor design new clothes. Some of the dog mannequins helped out with the employees and other dog mannequins pose in the newly designed clothes on the runway to show the customers. Endrae then became the happiest dog mannequin in the world for he loved working, hanging out with his friends, and was really happy that Tor's Clothing Place is here to stay.
