Production
Development
In a July 22, 2007, interview with The Hollywood Reporter, MacFarlane announced that he may start working on a feature film, although "nothing's official." In TV Week on July 18, 2008, MacFarlane confirmed plans to produce a theatrically released Family Guy feature film sometime "within the next year." He came up with an idea for the story, "something that you could not do on the show, which [to him] is the only reason to do a movie." He later went on to say he imagines the film to be "an old-style musical with dialogue" similar to The Sound of Music, saying that he would "really be trying to capture, musically, that feel." On October 13, 2011, MacFarlane confirmed that a deal for a Family Guy film had been made, and that it would be written by him and series co-producer Ricky Blitt.
On November 30, 2012, MacFarlane confirmed plans to produce a Family Guy film. The project was put on hold while MacFarlane worked on Ted 2.
On August 10, 2018, Fox announced that a live-action/animated film based on the series is in development.
In July 2019, MacFarlane confirmed that there will be a Family Guy movie. On June 2, 2025, the movie is scheduled to release on August 28, 2026, featuring an all star cast.
Filming
Principal photography began on September 12, 2025 and wrapped on December 15, 2025. Filming took place in Los Angeles, California, Peru, Paris, and the Fox Studio Lot.

Family Guy: The Movie (Orginal Motion Picture Soundtrack)
Family Guy: The Movie (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is a film score album to the film of the same name, released on August 27, 2026. Walter Murphy (who composed the series) was hired to compose the film. The Weeknd performed a rap edition to the original series theme song which is featured in the end credits. while Kid Cudi and Sia performed a original song called "Quahog Rap".

Marketing
A teaser trailer was released on Janurary 12, 2025, Similar to The Simpsons Movie, It showed the Batman logo until revealing it was Peter wearing a Batman shirt. The trailer garnered 439.56 million views worldwide in 24 hours, surpassing Inside Out 2 (2024) to become the most-viewed movie trailer in that timeslot. On May 17, 2026, 20th Century Studios released the theatrical trailer featuring a first look of Rob Delaney as the villain Damien and a full look at the film’s premise.
Disney made deals with multiple companies to perform promotion for the film. In total, it was estimated that they spent an approximate $245 million in advertising and promotion.

Family Guy: The Movie was released on digital on November 5, 2026. It was released on DVD, Blu-ray, and Ultra HD Blu-ray on November 10 by 20th Century Home Entertainment.

Family Guy: The Movie grossed $762 million in the United States and Canada, and $947 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $1.709 billion. It became the 12th animated film, and 54th film overall, to reach the billion-dollar mark. It marked multiple box-office records:
- It is the highest-grossing film of 2026, as well as the 8th highest-grossing film of all time, and the 4th highest-grossing film in the United States and Canada.
- It became the highest-grossing animated film of all time, surpassing The Lion King (2019) , and the highest-grossing animated film domestically, surpassing Incredibles 2 (2018).
- It also became 20th Century Studios' highest-grossing film solely distributed by the studio, both domestically and worldwide, surpassing Deadpool and Wolverine (2024),
- It became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, surpassing Sausage Party (2016).
- It also became highest-grossing film based on a television series, surpassing Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018), and the highest-grossing film based on an animated television series, surpassing The Simpsons Movie (2007).
Critical response
On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 95% of 128 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 7.9/10. The website's consensus reads: "The Griffins' big screen debut is the best R rated movie since South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut." Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 83 out of 100, based on 27 critics, indicating "generally favorable" reviews. Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "A" on an A+ to F scale, while PostTrak reported 82% of filmgoers gave it a positive score.
